Individual Psychotherapy: My practice is comprised of adults 18 years of age and older. I work with a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues providing services that span from therapy for depression and anxiety to career transitions and couples counseling. I tailor my psychodynamic, interpersonal approach to my clients' needs. Sessions are 50 minutes long and individuals generally have fixed appointments which occur once a week. Individuals may elect to come more than once a week depending on their needs, goals, and the availability of appropriate times.

Couples Counseling/Psychotherapy: Joint therapy sessions may be helpful for many couples whether straight, gay, dating, living together, maintaining a long-distance relationship, or in a stable, long-term marriage. Some typical issues addressed in couples therapy are: infidelity, chronic illness, sex, anger, communication problems, child rearing, finances, substance abuse, and culture clashes. You don't have to have be in the midst of a crisis to seek out treatment. Couples therapy can help people understand one another better and strengthen their bond. Sessions are from 50 to 60 minutes long and typically are scheduled once a week.

Group Psychotherapy: Group therapy helps people learn about themselves and improve their interpersonal relationships. It addresses feelings of isolation, depression, and/or anxiety. In my opinion, it is the most effective and efficient method of translating insight into behavior change. Group therapy is a form of treatment which requires specialized training. I completed a two year post-doctoral fellowship in group psychotherapy as well as the Group Training Program at the Washington School for Psychiatry. I currently am registered as a Certified Group Psychotherapist. To find other psychotherapists trained to run groups, you may look at the American Group Psychotherapy Association website at www.agpa.org

Group therapy can be an effective forum for:

*Learning to identify feelings, needs, and wants
*Developing trust in oneself and appropriate vulnerability with others
*Managing anger and other difficult emotions
*Maintaining healthy boundaries in relationships
*Increasing one's sense of personal power and control

While group members address a variety of issues, underlying processes (for example, what roles we take, how we approach certain tasks, how we are perceived by others) often become a topic of discussion. For these reason, it often helps to have experience with individual therapy before joining a group.
